Homemade Sloppy Joe Recipe With A Smokey, Sweet, Tangy Kick
Awww sloppy joes!
This sloppy joes recipe takes a slight detour from the standard ketchup yellow mustard version, cranking up the spice with the smoky, spicy, vinegary goodness of barbecue sauce and richness of pure maple syrup. The result is a fantastically rich, and tangy sloppy joe sandwhich with just a bit of heat.
For the barbecue sauce, I chose a Texas Pit style sauce for the characteristic chili and black pepper spice and vinegar bite. Almost any tomato-based tomato-based Memphis, Kansas City or Texas-style barbecue sauce should do just fine, adding the desired smokey-sweet, spicy and vinegar profile to the dish. In addition to the barbecue sauce, Heinz® Chili Sauce substitutes for ketchup and maple syrup rounds out the dish with its’ smoky, caramel-like richness.
